The Chinese Apple, Xiaomi has created its first ever tablet that is going to compete with other top tablet makers in the gadget industry. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 which also called as a Mi Pad 8 has good specifications and it is cheaper than the rests. Nevertheless, Xiaomi may look like another replica of Apple iPad Mini 2.
First Look at the Tablet
At first glance, the Mi Pad has the capacitive touchscreen of 7.9 inches display with a sharp 2048 x 1536 IPS LCD resolutions which brings 324 pixels density that appear identical with Retina Display. It has the MIUI operting system which feels more like an iOS rather than an Android. The glossy plastic of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 that cover the Mi Pad may looks like it is designed from Apple. However, the plastic built does make the Mi Pad feels less smudging however with slightly improved the grip so it could sits comfortably in the hand. The device is 8.5 mm thick and weights at 360g.
A Great Operating System inside the Tablet
The Mi Pad operating system runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat with heavy options for MIUI customizations. The MIUI lets you to add toggles to the standard home screen with a lot of transition effect to choose. You could also add widgets and create folder with MIUI. Plus, MiCloud which is Xiaomi version of iCloud that gives you 5GB of free storage and options to sync notes, contacts, gallery, music, browser history and Wi-Fi passwords. Mi Cloud also enables the Find Device function when you misplace your Mi Pad.
The Mi Pad is also been powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 chipset, a Quad-core 2.2 GHz Cortex-A15 processor with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a ULP GeForce Kepler with 192-core GPU. The Cortex-A15 was tested to provide stellar power for the CPU and Tegra K1 as the best in providing graphics display. Both Cortex-A15 and Tegra K1 allow users to play very intensive games smoothly but Mi Pad can also get very hot due to the choice of material its provide.
Mi Pad Camera and What It Brings
The tablet has a 8 Megapixels (3264 x 2448) camera mounted on the back and could record up to 1080p video at 30 frame per seconds. The only options that come with the camera are virtual shutter and camcorder buttons. There is no setting for resolutions, quality, panorama mode or HDR mode presents but the Mi Pad’s camera comes with lots of shooting effects such as Sepia and Black and White.
You can also find 5 Megapixels camera in front of the tablet. The quality of the images isn’t that bad as it offer dynamic range and colours but sometimes the images may show some odd blurring. However, the camera is fast to focus and can snap good quality images with good details.
Mi Pad connectivity
The Mi Pad is a Wi-Fi only device that includes dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac support as well as Wi-Fi direct functionality. The device also provide Bluetooth 4.0 and wireless display connectivity. The microUSB 2.0 ports that come with Mi Pad is used for charging and wired data connectivity with a USB OTG support for mounting external drives.

The internal storage of Mi Pad can be find in two variants which is 16GB and 64GB with microSD external memory slot that up to 128GB.
The Li-Po 6700mAh battery life of the Mi Pad could runs up to 86 hours of music, 11 hours of web time and close to 13 hours of video playback.
Mi Pad comes with a great file managing apps called Explorer which have an FTP function that directly upload content to your online servers. There is also a custom Calendar that let you to view Day and Month, the clock app for time viewing, and notes apps which you can create reminders notes or attachment notes and organize them into folders.
